Wondering how to stand out for yacht nanny positions, other than with the usual things (experience, references, etc.)?

Here’s what you need to highlight on your resume to get noticed for yacht nanny jobs:

☆ Confidence in the water and good sea legs

If you’re scared of water or feel like throwing up as soon as you step on a boat, then superyacht nanny jobs are definitely not for you…

You don’t need to be a super good swimmer, but if you happen to panic in the water, it’s not going to work. You must be comfortable both on the yacht and on the zodiac that you will inevitably take.

If you know you suffer from seasickness or motion sickness, be honest and do not apply for these positions. The yacht will not make additional stops to accommodate sick employees.

And if you don’t usually get seasick or motion sick, still bring some seasickness medication, just in case…

☆ A travel-friendly passport

As with any other nanny job, you must be authorized to work without a visa where the yacht is located and where it will be traveling.

Even though they involve travel, yacht nanny jobs do not come with visa sponsorship (like any other nanny position).

For your information, you may be asked to hand over your passport to the captain of the yacht, if this is the case do not worry, this is normal, it is just to facilitate customs formalities!

☆ Excellent communication skills

Effective communication is essential when working on a yacht.

You will of course interact with the principals and their children, but also with crew members from various backgrounds and perhaps with guests, so you need to be able to communicate clearly and effectively with different individuals.

Polished communication skills will contribute to a harmonious working environment.

☆ A professional and collaborative attitude

Professionalism is essential when working on a yacht. You must show respect at all times, including towards the crew and the yacht itself.

Working on a yacht as a nanny requires close collaboration with the crew, they will help you when needed, but you also need to make their job easier when possible.

They will sometimes serve you because you work with the principal’s children but they are not at your service.

For example, they will do your laundry and clean your room if you have a guest cabin, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t make your bed.

☆ A safety-conscious mind

Safety is a top priority for parents, and the reason they hire additional nannies to accompany them on a yacht vacation is primarily to ensure their children are safe at all times. Yachts are not really designed for children, especially very young ones. There are dangers everywhere for children on yachts, so your concern for the children’s safety must come before your desire to enjoy the views.

☆ Plenty of ideas to keep the kids busy and entertained on board!

There are sometimes several hours of navigation between each stopover, and they are not always at night.

So, you need a multitude of ideas to keep the children occupied and keep them from getting bored. You should also be organized and plan ahead for supplies, as it won’t always be possible to buy them along the way.

☆ The utmost discretion and a very good understanding of the concept of confidentiality

Families who spend their holidays on a yacht are usually HNWIs or UHNWIs. And like all HNWIs or UHNWIs, they value their privacy. What happens on a yacht stays on the yacht!

If it doesn’t make sense to you that you need the owner’s prior approval to post images of a yacht on social media, then you’re clearly not the right person for a yacht nanny position.

2 additional tips if you want to apply for yacht nanny jobs :

☆ Most yacht nanny positions are temporary and based abroad, so most of these positions require being self-employed. These families don’t want to spend their holidays doing administrative formalities, it’s up to you to take care of this low-joy task. When setting your rate, remember that it is a gross rate and that part of what the family pays you will go directly to taxes!

☆ When adding a yacht nanny job to your resume, please do not add a bunch of unnecessary details about the yacht (its name, length, etc.) this is only relevant if you are applying for a yacht captain position but not for a nanny position!
