If you’re sending out dozens of applications at a time and expecting hundreds of responses, you don’t know how to apply and you definitely sent out lots of unsuitable applications. You may even be blacklisted because recruiters don’t have time to waste on candidates who apply just for the sake of applying! It’s not possible to find so many positions that you are suited for… and you need to reread our post on mass applications!
It is not necessary to send a lot of applications to find a job, you have to send relevant and suitable applications, which is very different.
If you want to get interviews, you need to be very selective in your search : you need to know exactly what you want, identify the type of position that is right for you and only apply for jobs that you are likely to get, even if it means sending out far fewer applications.
It’s very difficult because it requires being able to be honest with yourself. When you need a job and see attractive job offers, it’s never easy to tell yourself that you’re not the right candidate for the position and that there’s no point in applying, or that you should aim for less attractive positions.
Candidates who land positions don’t just have an impressive CV, they also know how to apply! They target the right positions for them and understand the benefit of targeting only those positions! And they certainly don’t need to send out hundreds of applications to het hired!
If you know how to be patient, it is entirely possible to land a position by sending less than 10 applications, sometimes even less than 5!
Obviously, you won’t send these 5 or 10 applications on the same day, or even the same week. This does not change the fact that finding a position can take weeks or even months.
You should not apply more to increase your chances of finding a position, you must apply better.
It is better to send only 5 quality applications in 3 months and get 1 or 2 interviews in 3 months and possibly a job offer, rather than send 500 unsuitable applications in 3 months and get zero responses…
