This is a question we are often asked.
You might think that the more experience you have, the easier it is to find work, but that’s not the case in this industry.
Landing a nanny job is anything but easy, even when you have tons of experience.
The competition is tougher than candidates think and it’s not always the most experienced candidate who gets the job…
The market is saturated with candidates and there are many reasons why nannies fail to find work, even when they have an impressive number of years of experience, and we are only going to tell you about 3 of these reasons.
☆ First, almost all candidates want to land the same positions (ROTA positions) or want to work for the same families (HNW or UHNW families).
But most positions are not ROTA positions and most families are not HNW or UHNW.
ROTA positions or those with HNW or UHNW families represent only a small percentage (less than 2%) of the positions to be filled, and more than 90% of candidates on the market only want these types of positions.
So it just can’t work. Not all nanny candidates can work in a ROTA position or for an HNW or UHNW family.
☆ The second problem is wages. Yes, families tend to offer salaries that are too low, but candidates are not any better informed about market prices and tend to have salary expectations that are too high.
To be hired, it’s essential to know how to price your services correctly, and the reality is that it’s not always the parents who have to increase the salary offered…
☆ Then, all candidates make the same mistake, that of thinking that they will be selected only on the basis of their experience and qualifications.
Recruiters and employers also evaluate communication and professionalism among other things, and many candidates are rejected (or even blacklisted) simply because of their poor attitude.
Very often experienced nannies who don’t find work simply don’t have a good strategy, and often the reason no one wants to work with you is because you’re making a number of mistakes…
Standing out takes more than just a strong CV.
If candidates had better market knowledge and understood the indutry better, if they were more professional, more realistic, had more down-to-earth expectations and set more achievable goals, more of them would get interviews and land jobs!
