Lots of candidates complain that they never hear back from the recruiter after submitting their application.
It is true that recruiters often do not get back to excellent candidates, but it is also true that candidates often apply for positions that do not match their profile, and it is understandable no one ever gets back to them…
Here are a few tips for a successful nanny application :
Tip #1
First of all, to increase your chances to get a response after submitting your application, simply read the job description carefully and make sure your skills, qualifications and experience match what is being advertised. Remember : both agencies and families receive a high volume of applications, and it is difficult to reply to everyone. They usually choose to reply only to candidates who match their criteria.
Also, before applying, think carefully, and make sure you are happy with the conditions advertised (work location, accommodation, schedule, salary etc…). If the conditions do not work for you, there is just no point for you to apply.
Tip #2
Apply ONLY if you are legal to work in the country of employment!
To apply for nanny jobs in EU countries, you must have the right to live and work in EU countries (EU passport or EU visa).
To apply for nanny jobs in the US, you must have the right to live and work in the US (US passport or Green card).
To apply for nanny jobs in the UK, you must have the right to live and work in the UK (UK passport or settled / pre settled status). Before the Brexit, EU citizens could work in the UK without a visa. Since Brexit, this is not possible anymore, EU citizens must have a visa now to work in the UK.
Nanny jobs in the EU, the UK and the US never come with a visa! Once in a while, you might see a job that may come with visa sponsorship, but it is very rare.
Still regarding nanny jobs in the EU, UK & US, remember : for Live in positions, nationwide candidates can generally be considered. For Live out positions, only local candidates can be considered!
The only nanny jobs that come with a visa are the jobs that require EU / UK / US citizens to work outside of the EU / UK / US. Most of the time, those jobs are based in the Middle East (UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait etc…) but there are also opportunities in Russia and central Asia (Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan…).
Your location and visa status are key information for the recruiter, and they will go ahead with your application only if you can commute to the work place and if you have the right to live and work in the country of employment.
Tip #3
Make sure the recruiter will actually receive your application!
If you send a message to the recruiter via social media to apply, or even worse, if you leave them a comment on a social media post, it is very unlikely they will get your application.
If you want to make sure the recruiter receives your application, you can : apply via the website advertising the job, fill in the agency’s application form on their website, or send a professional email with your CV and supporting documents attached.
Those tips may sound simple, but a lot of funny applications are being sent every day! For example : some candidates apply for Russian speaking Nanny jobs when they do not speak a word of Russian, some other candidates apply for weekend jobs in California when they live in Europe etc… the list goes on and on… so we hope this is helpful!
Recruiters, if you would like to add anything to this, please, feel free to do so in the comments!
