When they see a job advertised, candidates always assume that it will be filled. This is not the case.
When a nanny agency has 20 jobs advertised on their website, it doesn’t mean 20 families will be hiring a nanny, and 20 nannies will find employment.
When a childcare website advertises dozens of new jobs every day, it doesn’t mean dozens of nannies get hired every day.
If they have applied for a position and the job is still advertised and they have not received a response, candidates often get upset or become harassing. It doesn’t help their job search, and it may even harm their professional reputation.
To be successful in your job search, you must not only see things from your candidate point of view. You sometimes have to try to put yourself in the shoes of recruiters or employers to understand how things work.
Not all families complete their search : many families are often uncertain about their needs e.g., or they often have to give up on their search because they realize that hiring a nanny is actually going to cost them too much. In general, families are very busy and don’t have time to waste on poor applications. Often, they prefer to abandon their search because they are disappointed by the quality of the applications they receive (hence the importance of not flooding families with unsuitable applications!). Sometimes also, families have already found childcare elsewhere but forgot to close their search, so their job is still advertised but is no longer available…
Families have every right to change their minds, and there’s no point in being rude because you haven’t received an answer.
Many families do not complete their search, so as not to be disappointed when applying for a nanny job, you must always keep in mind that the family will not necessarily employ someone in the end!
