Sorry but it had to be said!
It’s completely okay to need and ask for help when looking for a nanny job but it’s not okay to assume that nanny agencies and childcare businesses are free resume writers or that it’s their job to coach you for free.
The role of nanny recruiters and nanny recruitment platforms is simply to share job opportunities and facilitate (each in their own way) the applications for these opportunities. It’s definitely not to do all the hard work for the candidates!
Writing CVs or coaching people are no hobbies, they are a real job, which some people do for a living, like being a nanny.
Writing CVs or coaching people is time-consuming, and it is not fair to expect people to provide these services for free.
Obviously, nanny recruiters and childcare business owners seem like the ideal people to provide these services, but again that’s not their job, and if they start devoting time to providing these services to everyone who requests them, they will literally end up working multiple jobs for free!
I know this post is going to sound rude, but nannies, look at it this way : you don’t like it when you are asked to do a trial day or when parents ask for your help for free, right?
You don’t like it when people want to take advantage of your knowledge or take up your time without compensation in return and that’s perfectly normal… well it’s just the same thing when it comes to resume writing or nanny coaching!
If you need help with your resume or navigating a difficult job search, again that’s perfectly normal and there’s nothing wrong with that!
But please go to the right people, the ones who provide this service, and don’t be offended that no one can afford to work for free!
All work deserves to be rewarded!
