Flexibility should be a two-way street, and it rarely is.

Of course, being a nanny isn’t a 9-to-5 office job, and it’s normal for parents to need flexibility.

Most nannies are more than happy to be flexible and often go out of their way to accommodate their employers, but sometimes they wish the flexibility went a little more both ways.

Indeed, nannies, just like their employers, may be faced with unforeseen circumstances, and they cannot predict when urgent events will arise.

Nannies are more likely to stay long-term with a family when they can get the same flexibility that is expected of them.

So, dear parents, please, when you expect flexibility, try to be flexible yourself when possible, that would be very considerate…
