We don’t like to give this advice, but it can actually be very useful if you are having trouble finding a job.

There are many more candidates looking for a position than there are vacancies, and not all positions that are advertised end up being filled.

All candidates are aiming for the same positions, those that are the most attractive in terms of hours or salary.

And many positions are denigrated because they are less prestigious even though they are perfectly decent.

There are already not enough positions for all the candidates looking, so it is obvious that it is not possible for all candidates to secure a top position.

Considering applying for jobs that are easier to get or lower-competition can advance your job search.

Taking a slightly lower-level position isn’t ideal, but if you’re struggling to find your dream job, it can be beneficial.

Taking a mediocre position can help fill the gap on your resume, boost your confidence, give you some income and reduce stress, and of course… give you time to keep quietly searching for the job you really want!
