Paid time off is not a perk, it is a fundamental right for every employee, including nannies.
Whether they work full-time or part-time, Nannies are entitled to PTO (vacation days, sick days, holidays, personal days).
It is essential to have a contract in which you clearly outline paid time off.
Paid time off should be used when the nanny chooses to take time off for their own needs, not when it suits the family.
And like any human being, nannies can’t always predict when they’ll need to use their PTO.
(Obviously, whenever possible nannies must give their employer sufficient notice, and if they wish they can take their PTO at a mutually convenient time.)
And when a nanny leaves, employers are required to pay them accrued vacation and sick leave!
