Our client is looking for a Nanny for their seven-year-old son, who has high functioning autism. He appears and acts like a typical school-aged child but does experience behavior breakdowns that require assistance from his caretaker. The most important aspect of this role is to help keep him on a consistent schedule as much as possible and support him in his educational | behavioral goals. The position will be based in San Francisco, but the candidate should be comfortable with occasional travel to Colorado, as well as other international trips in accordance with the family’s travel schedule. As the nanny, you will complete a morning wake-up routine, all meals, and a bath and bedtime routine. You will drive him to school, therapy, and other extracurricular activities. Driving in the snow will be required. You are also there to play and have fun with him, whether on bike rides, swimming, or other active activity! You will plan his weeks on a visual calendar or datebook and review often with the child what to expect in a day so he understands his routine expectations. You play a key role in the communication between the child and his family/friends. It is your job to understand him and give him ways/options to communicate with others. Most of the child’s behavior breakdowns occur when he feels like he is not being heard or understood, so it is your role to bridge the gap between the communication barriers. Lastly, you will be supported by therapists and a specialist to continue working on his goals when he is outside of school.
