When you’re blacklisted by a nanny agency, you’re usually not formally notified. You’re more likely to have to figure it out on your own…

Okay, but how are nannies supposed to guess that?

By paying attention to sudden changes. If you were previously getting regular interview calls or job matches and suddenly get none — even though you’re qualified and applying as usual — that’s a potential sign.

If communication has abruptly stopped after a particular incident or disagreement, or after you have left a position abruptly, you are probably right to think that you have been blacklisted.

Here are some of the most common signs that you’ve been quietly flagged or deprioritized:

☆ You suddenly stop receiving job offers

☆ You’re consistently overlooked when you apply for jobs you are qualified for

☆They take much longer to respond than usual, responses are vague (“We’ll keep you in mind,” “Nothing suitable right now”) or you are no longer receiving any responses to your applications

☆ You are constantly told: “Sorry, you are not the right fit for this family.”

☆ Your profile is no longer visible on their site (if they have a candidate database)

If you believe you are on a blacklist, unfortunately, there is nothing you can do. Just as you can decide to stop working with an agency, an agency has the right to decide to stop working with you.

Incidents or disagreements happen, and being blacklisted by an agency does not mean the end of your nanny career.

Remain professional: do not accuse them publicly or angrily, and don’t waste your time (or theirs) contacting them with a new email address (under a different name) to see if they respond.

Instead, move on and register with new agencies!

However, if you are blacklisted everywhere, you should ask yourself some questions…
