#1 The most common rotations are 1 week on/off or 2 weeks on/off, but these rotations are not the norm and parents can perfectly request shorter or longer rotations even if the nannies are less happy with them, for example 4 or 5 days on/off, 1 month on/off etc…

#2 Not all rotating positions are 24/7 and Live-in. Rotational Nanny positions can be Live-in or Live-out. If the Nanny is not required 24/7 and the ROTA position is Live-out, the family can expect the nanny to return home at the end of each day, and in this case you must live locally and be able to commute daily to be considered.

#3 Not all families are open to fly in/fly out candidates. Even if families can afford to transport candidates between each rotation, they often prefer more convenient arrangements. In a nanny job posting, the word ROTA does not necessarily mean that the position is open to candidates who live far away.

Yes, most ROTA nannies work 1 week on/off or 2 weeks on/off and most ROTA positions are live-in when on duty, with transportation taken care of between rotations.

But families may very well offer different conditions… before applying for a rotational position, you must therefore take the time to carefully read the position requirements and understand the family’s expectations.

Very often, if you have no answer it’s because you don’t care what the family wants and offers…

So make sure the length of the ROTA is right for you, and if you don’t live nearby, make sure the family provides accommodation and covers transportation. This will save you from wasting your time and waiting for a response for nothing…
