An international family who divide their time between Oxford, UK and Seattle, USA is seeking an experienced and qualified Governess to support the education and development of their two children, aged 6 and 8. This role combines educational guidance with meaningful after-school support, giving you the opportunity to shape the children’s academic progress while also encouraging independence, good manners, and social confidence. You’ll accompany the family on frequent international trips, planning enriching educational experiences wherever they are in the world. The ideal candidate is a qualified teacher who enjoys thinking creatively, embraces travel, and understands how to inspire children both inside and outside the classroom.
Responsibilities:
Support the educational development of two children aged 6 and 8
Provide after-school care and academic support on weekdays
Work with the children throughout the day on weekends
Assist with homework and reinforce classroom learning
Teach excellent manners, etiquette, and age-appropriate social skills
Plan engaging educational, creative, and recreational activities
Encourage curiosity, critical thinking, confidence, and independent learning
Organise educational outings, cultural experiences, and enrichment opportunities
Accompany the family on frequent international travel and plan stimulating activities while abroad
Communicate regularly with parents regarding academic progress and developmental goals
Work collaboratively with the family’s household staff to ensure consistency and continuity
Requirements:
Recognised teaching qualification, Education degree, or equivalent
Previous experience as a Governess, Teacher, or Private Educator
Strong understanding of child development and primary education
Passion for creating engaging, child-centred learning experiences
Professional, organised, discreet, and adaptable
Comfortable working within a fully staffed household
Flexible and enthusiastic about frequent international travel
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Position Details:
