A British family relocating to Beijing in April 2027 is seeking an experienced Bilingual Private Educator to take responsibility for the education of their 7-year-old son during the family’s two-year stay in China. The successful candidate will homeschool the child following the British curriculum, while also helping him develop Mandarin from his current level.
The family is looking for someone who is genuinely bilingual in English and Mandarin, with solid classroom or private teaching experience. Experience teaching Mandarin to international children, particularly students starting from little or no prior knowledge, would be highly valued, as would previous experience delivering the British curriculum. The family is specifically looking for someone who is already based in Beijing and able to work without accommodation or visa sponsorship. This is a Monday–Friday position with weekends off and a two-year contract.
Responsibilities:
Homeschool the 7-year-old child in line with the British curriculum
Plan and deliver engaging, age-appropriate lessons across the core curriculum
Teach Mandarin as an additional language, adapting lessons to the child’s existing level
Build the child’s confidence in speaking, reading, writing, and understanding Mandarin
Introduce Mandarin through conversation, reading, cultural activities, and everyday experiences
Monitor academic progress and adapt lesson plans to suit the child’s individual learning style
Encourage curiosity, independence, critical thinking, and a positive attitude toward learning
Create a structured but enjoyable daily learning routine
Source educational resources, books, activities, and materials where appropriate
Communicate regularly with the parents regarding academic progress and educational goals
Help the child become comfortable using both English and Mandarin in everyday life
Requirements:
Fully bilingual in English and Mandarin
Previous professional teaching or private education experience
Experience teaching the British curriculum
Experience teaching Mandarin to non-native speakers, ideally from beginner or zero level
Strong understanding of primary-age education and child development
Engaging, patient, organised, and confident teaching style
Able to work independently and take ownership of the child’s educational programme
Already based in Beijing
