Rota Nanny – 2 Weeks On / 2 Weeks Off
Location: Vienna
Live-in during on-shift – the family will cover your flights home during off-shift | Long-term role | Care for one 7 months old baby + occasional care for a 3-year-old
Small dog in the household
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced, developmentally focused Rota Nanny (primarily 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off) to care for our 7-month-old baby, with occasional care for a 3-year-old stepbrother who visits one week every six weeks.
The ideal candidate has strong infant experience, a deep understanding of early childhood development, and ideally familiarity with Montessori principles. We are looking for someone calm, confident, warm, and proactive — someone who supports learning through movement, play, gentle routines, and exploration.
This is a long-term role for a nanny who enjoys both home-based routines and active outdoor adventures. A small, friendly dog lives in the home, so comfort around pets is required.
Main Responsibilities
Provide attentive, developmentally informed care throughout the rota schedule.
Plan Montessori-aligned and creative activities that promote exploration, free movement, independence, and sensory development.
Support physical development: floor time, outdoor play, swimming, crawling/climbing invitations.
Prepare healthy, balanced meals/snacks in line with parents’ guidelines.
Maintain stable routines that support emotional regulation and secure attachment.
Keep play areas tidy, organised, and safe.
Provide occasional care for the 3-year-old during his visits.
Travel with the family within Europe and abroad (approx. 8–10 weeks per year).
Assist with child-related household tasks (laundry, organising clothes and toys, maintaining order).
Ensure smooth, clear handovers with the second rota nanny.
Show calm, friendly behaviour around the family’s small dog.
Sleep Arrangements
During on-shift weeks until the baby turns 1, the nanny sleeps in the baby’s room to support nighttime settling and security.
After age 1, the nanny sleeps in a private nanny/guest room during on-shift weeks.
Break Structure
During on-shift periods, the nanny receives daily 4-hour rest breaks, typically scheduled around the baby’s nap routine or family plans.
Break may occur in the morning, afternoon, or evening, depending on the day’s structure and agreed in advance when possible.
Confidentiality & Discretion
The nanny must maintain strict discretion, including respecting the family’s privacy, maintaining professional boundaries, and exercising good judgment in all situations.
Candidate Requirements
Minimum 5 years’ professional nanny experience, with strong infant experience.
Knowledge of Montessori principles or willingness to learn and apply them consistently.
Prior rota or live-in experience strongly preferred.
Confident swimmer and safe, responsible driver.
EU work eligibility required.
Fluent English; German, French, or Italian are advantages.
Warm, grounded, emotionally mature, and proactive personality.
Highly organised, discreet, and able to work independently.
Physically active and comfortable with floor-based and outdoor play.
Comfortable around a small dog.
Schedule (Rota Model)
Standard rota: 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off
Occasional 3 weeks on / 3 weeks off: This occurs when the family has a longer trip and prefers not to change rota nannies mid-travel.
During on-weeks: combination of daytime care, evening routines, and night standby (baby generally sleeps well).
Flexibility required during travel periods.
Schedule will evolve as the child grows (e.g., daily playgroup start in September 2026 or January 2027).
Employment Structure
We are flexible and can offer either:Full Austrian employment contract (15 payments per year), or
Self-employed daily-rate structure, for candidates preferring freelance work (our preference).
We are happy to discuss the structure that best suits the candidate.
Compensation & Benefits
The model they offer is:

* EUR 3500 gross per month, if employed in Austria (this would be paid 15 months per year, according to Austrian law for employment in private households) = 52500 Gross per year.
* preferred start date 1 April, but flexible for the right candidate
* all additional benefits open to discussion.
Private accommodation provided during on-shift.
