About the Family
We are a warm, welcoming English/German family with two children (ages 6 & 9) and a small dog living close to Munich in the beautiful lakeside town of Starnberg. Both children attend an international school full-time and have a variety of after-school activities. We speak primarily English at home but the children are fluent in German.

We are looking for a professional, experienced afterschool nanny who will become a trusted and valued part of our household. The role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with school-age children, brings warmth and fun to the afternoons, and is highly reliable, organised, and detail-oriented.

We are involved parents who want a nanny that works in partnership with us and checks in on key decisions as the children grow. This is a sole charge role as both parents work full time. We work locally with flexible schedules, so while we may occasionally be around, the nanny will have day-to-day responsibility for the children during working hours. This is a busy household with additional support staff, so strong communication and teamwork are essential.

We are offering a salary of c.€55k gross per annum for this role for approx. 30 hours per week.

Responsibilities

Childcare and logistics

  • Collecting children from school and driving to after-school activities (family car provided)
  • Managing children’s weekly schedule, including activities, playdates, and appointments
  • Ensuring children’s belongings (school clothes, sports kits, school bags) are prepared and organised each day
  • Coordinating with parents on upcoming school events, trips, or changes in routine

Household & family support (children-focused)

  • Using 1–2 hours before school pick-up to handle proactive tasks (meal prep, organising, light errands)
  • Preparing healthy snacks for during school and after school, and dinners for the children.
  • Supporting reading homework, music practice, and keeping everyone on track with school projects.
  • Keeping on top of school and activity related communication.
  • Organising play, creative activities, and outings during the evenings
  • Overseeing children’s belongings (clothing, school items, sports gear) and flagging/replacing as needed
  • Tidying play areas and children’s bedrooms, handling children’s laundry
  • Managing children’s calendars, remembering birthdays, and purchasing or arranging gifts
  • Light child-related household tasks (tidying play areas, putting clothes away) but no regular cleaning or household laundry.
  • Regular Wednesday evening babysitting (plus occasional evenings by agreement)
  • Occasional full-day care during school holidays or when school closes unexpectedly, if possible but not required.
  • Occasional proxy parenting: Providing solo care when parents travel, including school runs, meals, routines, and coordination with other household staff.

Development, boundaries & wellbeing

  • Support child and teen development with age-appropriate expectations; help set clear, consistent boundaries and routines
  • Encourage growing responsibility and independence (e.g., packing bags, chores) as agreed with parents
  • Monitor screen time within family rules; promote good manners, social skills, and healthy habits
  • Provide calm, positive guidance; flag emerging needs and share strategies that align with our approach

Candidate Requirements

  • At least 3 years of professional childcare experience, including at least one prior role with a private family and excellence references.
  • Paediatric First Aid qualification (current or willing to update before start)
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a team in a staffed household
  • High level of reliability, attention to detail, and consistency with routines
  • Warm, engaging, and energetic — able to build a strong bond with school-aged children
  • Proactive and organised — able to anticipate needs and manage transitions smoothly
  • Confident driver with a clean license
  • Comfortable around pets (small dog at home; must be happy to occasionally walk dog)
  • English and German Language needed
  • Must have EU right to work
